About
I count myself as quite fortunate for having the opportunity to explore a number of places and cultures. The fact that I was born in Houston, Texas, raised in Alexandria, Egypt, and married to a New Yorker, has been a factor in fostering my open-mindedness and creativity. Each of these aspects of my life have contributed to my development as a person.
In Egypt, I attended a private British high school, El Nasr Boys School, where my interest in Chemistry reached a peak. One of my teachers, Dr. alAlayli, was quite an inspiration and I attribute a large part of my pursuit of Chemistry to the passion his instruction instilled within me. Shortly after graduation, I moved back to the United States in pursuit of a college degree.
In May of 2008, I graduated from Texas Southern University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry. Soon afterward, I began an internship at the R&D sector of Huntsman Corp. in The Woodlands, Texas. There, I worked with the coating and epoxy group in the development of a new material, which was of higher resistance to water and heat and also had greater surface durability.
Solving problems in the lab unveiled my interest in research. Three months later, I enrolled in a Master’s Degree Program in Nanoscience and Micro Systems at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. The decision to plunge into an unfamiliar, yet promising field appealed to my personal character; my self-motivation and constant willingness to challenge myself were further developed by this decision. Throughout my research endeavors, I have taken initiative to complete difficult and unfamiliar tasks, worked overtime and after-hours in order to ensure deadlines were met, and managed my time while also learning to multitask without diminishing the quality of my work.
I am confident that these skills will positively impact my pursuit of a fulfilling career and enable me to coordinate my projects, manage my time, and utilize all available resources to ensure my success and the success of those with whom I work.
Sincerely,
Haytham Soliman
